Information you provide directly We collect personal information you provide when you:

  • Register for or manage an online account or customer portal
  • Start, stop, or modify water or wastewater service
  • Make a payment, enroll in autopay/auto-draft, or set up paperless billing
  • Set alerts, reminders, or notification preferences
  • Contact us with questions, requests, or feedback
  • Complete forms on our website or in the miWKUD app

This may include your name, contact information (email, phone number, service address), account number, payment information, and other details needed to provide utility services.

Information collected automatically When you visit our website or use the miWKUD app, we automatically collect certain information, including:

  • Log Data (IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages or screens viewed, referring domain, and similar technical information)
  • Cookies, clear GIFs/pixels, and similar technologies 

Information from other sources We may receive information from service providers, payment processors, or other third parties as needed to provide or maintain your service.

If you do not provide certain information when requested, we may be unable to provide requested services or fulfill our obligations to you.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide and manage water and wastewater utility services and your customer account
  • To process payments, manage billing, and support autopay and paperless options
  • To identify you when you visit or log into the Platform
  • To communicate with you about your account, service, alerts, and inquiries
  • To improve our website, customer portal, and miWKUD app
  • To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, security incidents, unauthorized activity, or violations of our policies
  • To debug and repair errors that affect the functionality of the Platform
  • To comply with legal and regulatory obligations, establish or exercise our rights, and defend against legal claims
  • For internal administrative purposes and to manage our relationship with you 

How We Share Your Information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers — We engage trusted third parties to perform functions on our behalf, such as hosting and maintenance, payment processing, customer relationship management, database storage, and communications. We share information with these parties only to the extent necessary and under contractual obligations requiring them to protect the information.
  • Third-Party Services — Certain features or services available through the Platform may be provided in partnership with third parties. If you choose to use those services, information you provide may be shared with the third party and will be subject to that party’s privacy policy.
  • Legal and Safety Reasons — We may disclose information when we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, respond to legal process (including subpoenas), protect the rights, property, or safety of WKUD, our customers, or others, or prevent illegal or harmful activity.

If the new entity’s planned use of the information differs materially from this policy, you will have the opportunity to opt out where required.

We do not sell personal information.

Account Deletion and Data Requests

Please note that we may retain some information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (for example, billing records, service history, and regulatory compliance). Complete deletion of all data associated with your utility account may not be possible in every case.

Children’s Privacy

The Platform is intended for adults and utility customers. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us and mark your inquiry “Children Information Request.”

Security and Data Retention

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information under our control. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

In the event we are required by law to notify you of a breach of your personal information, we may do so electronically, in writing, or by telephone, as permitted by law.

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to satisfy legal, accounting, regulatory, or reporting requirements, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Information may be stored in the United States. This Platform is primarily intended for use in the United States.

Third-Party Links

Our Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not controlled by WKUD. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.
