Cross Connection Control

The West Knox Utility District established a Cross Connection Control program to comply with the Rules and Regulations set forth by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Supply, which requires all water purveyors to provide the safest water possible.

This required the Utility to assess the water usage of each customer in the West Knox Utility District jurisdiction.

The degree of hazard had to be assigned to each customer, whether No hazard, Low Hazard, or High Hazard potential. The low and high hazard classifications are required to install backflow prevention devices.

Low hazard Potential-fire line systems, which require a testable Double-Check Valve Assembly.

High Hazard Potential-hospitals, doctor/dental offices, car washes, restaurants, schools/colleges, hotels/motels, beauty salons, high-rise buildings, veterinaries, water treatment plants, irrigation Systems, etc., which require a reduced pressure backflow Preventer.

Presently, West Knox Utility District conducts all the yearly testing of each backflow prevention devise in the system, at a charge of 30 dollars to the customer.
